Project
Contents recommendation AI based on global highlighting big data
Project Summary
LINER is a 'highlighter pen' for the internet, helping users to add highlight or memo on web pages.
Now LINER has become a unique startup that can gather hand picked information on a large scale. As LINER gathers information that was actually used by people, LINER’s database is like a kernel of the internet. So the team is trying to build a ‘human filtered version of the internet’ and aims to build a content recommendation AI with this highlight big data.
Business Model
1. Sell freemium. We give away basic highlighting feature and charge for premium features like more colors, unlimited folders, advanced search for $5/month. This business model can also accelerate our referral program and help our growth in a way. This BM is growing exponentially around 16% per week.
2. LINER Pro for Researchers(B2B for small teams). We’ve been observing how our users use LINER and could figure out that researchers read ‘a lot’ of document on the internet. We’re trying to offer a software that can help these people who do research as a job(doctors, lawyers, marketers and graduate students, ...) manage online documents and recommend related information. We do know that there are this kind of software around for PDF and thesis. But LINER is different and even better because our database not only has information from PDF/thesis but also has more recent materials like news, blogs and others(much more richer).
For this software, we can charge much more than the freemium version.
3. Sell data and insights to media and other companies. What we have is a big data of ‘actually consumed’ content on the internet with appropriate labels which can be used for machine learning almost directly(well, compared to other big data sets). We can help other companies build QA apps or summary apps or help enhance their recommendation on users(we can even help Google’s search result get better).
Main Achievements
LINER’s usage has been doubling every month for over a year. LINER started supporting Korean and Japanese because Apple asked the team to do so. 90% of the users are outside Korea so the team confidently claims that they are running a global startup growing exponentially.
Also, LINER is making an impact on education. A lot of students and teachers are using it and the team is currently working with Cambridge(MA, US) Public schools to provide a customized service for the region.
